43rd BMSS Annual Meeting

The BMSS is delighted to announce that the 43rd BMSS Annual Meeting will be held at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), Manchester, UK, on the 12th -14th of September 2023.

The 2023 meeting will include a 3-day meeting & vendor exhibition, together with a full social programme.

In these uncertain financial times the BMSS is committed to delivering the best value meeting possible, to allow us to keep delegate costs down and continue supporting our Research Support Grants, Summer Studentships and other activities. The meetings team explored the viability of 7 venues available for September 2023 and, of these, RNCM was the only one to offer excellent facilities for a reasonable cost. We appreciate that members may be surprised to hear that we are returning to Manchester again so soon, but due to high demand, there were very few options this year. The BMSS Committee is dedicated to holding its meetings nationwide and will continue to search for other locations with the appropriate facilities. In the meantime, we look forward to working again with our colleagues at RNCM to offer delegates, sponsors and exhibitors an excellent experience at BMSS43.

BMSS43 will also offer asynchronous online outreach post-event, thus enabling delegates to catch-up on any talks they may miss in real-time. Delegates registering for the in-person event will automatically gain access to the recordings post-event for a period of time.

The City of Manchester
Manchester is a natural location for BMSS43. John Dalton, J.J. Thompson & James Chadwick were all born, educated or worked in the city. The first commercial MS instruments were developed in Trafford Park, and today Manchester is the anchor point for one of the largest MS clusters in Europe!

Manchester is well connected to the UK motorway and rail networks. Manchester International Airport is connected to the city centre by both direct rail and Metrolink tram services. Within the city the Metrolink tram and bus services make getting around simple and inexpensive.

BMSS43 coincides with several other events in Manchester. Consequently, hotel accommodation is anticipated to be at a premium. BMSS, through its exclusive accommodation partner HelmsBriscoe, have secured a block of hotel rooms at preferential rates for BMSS43 delegates.

The Conference Venue
The Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), 124 Oxford Rd, Manchester M13 9RD, is conveniently located at the heart of Manchester’s University Quarter, and well connected by public transport.

The RNCM provides excellent lecture theatres to host the BMSS43 scientific programme. The main concourse, tiered over three interconnected levels, will host the vendor exhibition.  The RNCM’s public spaces will provide an architecturally impressive backdrop for the inclusive social event & buffet supper on the evening of Tuesday 12th  of September.

The Conference Dinner:
A formal conference dinner will be held on the evening of Wednesday 13th of September in the International Suite of the Mercure Hotel.
