Member benefits
The British Mass Spectrometry Society (BMSS) was founded in 1964 to promote knowledge and advancement in the field of mass spectrometry. Mass Spectrometry is a central analytical tool for many areas including Chemistry, Forensic Science, Drug Discovery and the Biosciences.
As a member of the BMSS you will
- be part of a community of people with a similar interest to yours
- have the opportunity to keep up to date with recent technological developments, learn more about MS and share your own knowledge and experience e.g. by joining Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
- be eligible to apply for grants towards small items of equipment, summer studentships and conference travel
- be entitled to discounts for BMSS meetings and the European Journal of Mass Spectrometry
- receive copies of Mass Matters, the official publication of the BMSS, published three times a year
- benefit from 20% off relevant book titles when purchased via Wiley Publishing (discount code required - contact BMSS Administrator for details).
Students: Can benefit from our education programme by applying for travel grants, presenting research at meetings and taking part in the Barber oral prize and Bordoli poster prize competitions. All student members receive a general mass spectrometry text book upon joining. The BMSS would like to thank John Wiley and Sons, for making the volume available at a substantially discounted price.
New & Established spectrometrists: Will gain from courses, careers events, links with other societies such as ChromSoc & RSC, networking via Special Interest Groups.
Membership Timespan: The BMSS subscription year runs from 1st January to 31st December. For new members joining between the 1st October and 31st December, the subscription paid will cover the remainder of that year, plus all of the following year.
Change in Membership Type: If your educational or employment status has changed when you come to renew, please contact the BMSS Administrator with the evidence that will enable us to amend your membership status accordingly.
Membership renewal: To ensure continued membership to the BMSS, renew your membership before 1st April.
