NOTICE OF THE 2020 BMSS ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The 2020 BMSS Annual General Meeting will be held at 13:00 BST on Thursday 10th September 2020 via a virtual Zoom meeting.

Note 1: 

Details of how to join the AGM via Zoom and how to access the AGM documents will be emailed out to members on Thursday 3rd September 2020. Anyone not having received the email should contact the BMSS Administrator (having checked the Spam Folder first).

Note 2:       

Members of the BMSS wishing to raise items under AOB are asked to let the BMSS Administrator have a note of them by Wednesday 19th August 2020

*PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE BMSS CONSTITUTION

 

In the last 2 years, the BMSS have made strategic investments in modern digital solutions to aid and further the business activities of the BMSS, to streamline administration and provide digitally interactive solutions for our members. To enable smooth day-to day management and future developments of these digital solutions, this proposal is to turn one of the General Member committee positions into a new Officer role to oversee all digital communications for the BMSS.

The details of the proposed changes are as follows…

 

1. Amend 4.2 to include the position of Digital Communications Officer:

Current wording:

 4.2. The Officers shall be the Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, General Secretary, the Meeting Secretary, Papers Secretary, Education Officer, Publicity Secretary and Special Interest Group Co-ordinator.

 

Suggested new wording:

4.2 The Officers shall be the Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, General Secretary, the Meeting Secretary, Papers Secretary, Education Officer, Publicity Secretary, Special Interest Group Co-ordinator and Digital Communications Officer.

 

2. Amend 4.3 to reduce the number of General Members from 6 to 5 i.e. no overall increase in Executive Committee numbers:

Current wording:

4.3. The General Members shall comprise up to six Members of the BMSS, elected by the membership, and up to three Co-opted Members, appointed by the Committee. One of the General Members should represent the interests of younger/new members.

 

Suggested new wording:

4.3 The General Members shall comprise up to five Members of the BMSS, elected by the membership, and up to three Co-opted Members, appointed by the Committee. One of the General Members should represent the interests of younger/new members.

Note: by doing this we are abiding by 6.8 of the constitution.

 

3. Inclusion of a new article (5.11) to define the DCO’s role:

5.11 The Digital Communications Officer shall be responsible for the website and other means of digital communication for the BMSS.

 

Note: Current Article 5.11 becomes 5.12:

5.12 The Immediate Past Chair shall be a non- voting member of the committee. They shall chair the BMSS Advisory Board and shall provide continuity in the management of the society activities by offering guidance to the Officers and the Executive Committee.
