Imaging & MALDI SIG Meeting 2026

Pushing the boundaries of mass spectrometry imaging - Join us at the 11th Imaging and MALDI SIG symposium on the 6th of May 2026 in Cambridge with an additional workshop on the 5th of May!
The Integrated bioanalysis (IBA) team from AstraZeneca in conjunction with the British Mass Spectrometry Society and the MALDI and Imaging Special Interest Group Leadership is pleased to announce the 11th Imaging and MALDI SIG Symposium at the DISC (Cambridge).
This meeting will showcase innovative research and emerging applications spanning a wide range of scientific topics, including biological and clinical research, forensic science, and environmental sciences. The program is designed to reflect the expanding frontiers of MALDI and MSI technologies, from integration with spatial omics platforms, such as proteomics and transcriptomics, to the development of new methodologies which enable multi-omics capabilities on a single platform. In addition, we will explore the pivotal role of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced computational tools that are transforming how scientists analyse and interpret the complex datasets generated by MALDI and MSI.

THE MEETING:
This meeting will bring together leading experts, emerging researchers, and industry pioneers to showcase the latest breakthroughs, discuss key challenges, and foster new collaborations. We are delighted to welcome three leading experts in mass spectrometry imaging as our 2026 plenary speakers:
Dr. Richard Goodwin (AstraZeneca, UK) - Leading innovative teams that accelerates the delivery of new medicines with multi-modal data and AI.
Dr. Rita Casadonte (ProteoPath, Germany) - A leading expert mass spectrometry imaging based proteomic analysis and MSI for investigation of tissue pathology
Senior Prof. Per Andren (Uppsala University, Sweden) - A leading expert in method development and application of mass spectrometry imaging to the brain and neurodegenerative disease, with a particular focus on Parkinson’s disease.
There will be further talk sessions with career perfective vendor updates and early career science shotgun talks.
THE WORKSHOP-MSI TRAINING:
On the 5th of May there is also an opportunity to join an MSI workshop, also hosted at the DISC, where methods such as sample preparation for reproducibility, MALDI MSI, DESI MSI and matrix preparation will be showcased.
The training is open to early-career scientists, PhD candidates, and postdoctoral researchers with a background in mass spectrometry who are beginning to use MSI. Places are limited, and participants will be selected based on their expressions of interest.
Please follow the Training Application link located on the left side of this page and follow the instructions to express an interest in participating in this event.
Training workshop Application Deadline: 22nd April 2026
CALL FOR SYMPOSIUM ORAL PRESENTATIONS AND POSTERS:
We invite researchers at all career stages to submit abstracts for oral presentations (5x20 min), flash talks (4x5 min dedicated to those who do not have a full dataset), and posters (~30). This is your chance to present your work to a highly engaged audience!
Please follow the abstract link located on the left of this page to submit an abstract for this symposium.
