Job Description:        

We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to work in Professor Nicole Zitzmann’s team within the Infectious and Disease Processes Theme of the Department of Biochemistry. This role will be offered the opportunity to work on several research projects, including a newly initiated cross-departmental collaboration focussing on sample preparation for matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF) analysis related to COVID-19. The Research Assistant will be working under the supervision of experienced doctoral and post-doctoral researchers in the Department of Biochemistry, and closely liaising with colleagues in the Department of Chemistry and the Nuffield Department of Medicine. They will also be working with stakeholders in academia and industry and fostering international links. This will develop skills in project management, data analysis and presentation of data within a cross-disciplinary group.

Applicants should hold a Bachelors degree in biochemistry, chemistry or any other a related field and have experience of generic laboratory skills such as pipetting, solvent preparation and weighing chemicals. You will be enthusiastic about your work, have strong organisational/communication skills and commitment and be able to work independently and as part of a team.  You will have excellent record keeping skills and strong attention to detail.  Previous experience in working in a mass spectrometry or analytical chemistry laboratory and/or the analysis of datasets using statistical tools would be desirable.

Further Information

This full-time fixed-term post is funded for up to 12 months in the first instance and is based initially in the Rodney Porter Building, Biochemistry Department, South Parks Road, Oxford.
This position is graded on the University’s grade 6 scale. The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.
