We are looking for an enthusiastic mass spectrometrist, analytical scientist or biologist to join our growing team of researchers. If you love to make measurements, we would love to hear from you!

Our team are working closely with leading research groups, for example NPL, GSK, Yokogawa Corporation and various hospitals and universities nationally and internationally to develop measurement strategies for multimodal elemental and mass spectrometry imaging, single cell mass spectrometry and for spatially resolved profiling of lipids and metabolites in tissues.

In this post, you will work within our team of academic, post-doctoral and PhD researchers and external users to develop new measurements that can become part of our future measurement service. You will be expected to contribute to publications, in both analytical and biological journals (with our collaborators). We will provide flexibility, opportunities to enable your career progression and training. Some expertise in mass spectrometry, imaging or analytical measurement science is desirable. This post will involve working with multiple parties inside and outside the university and therefore you will also need to have excellent communication skills (written and oral), the ability to plan and organise your own time and, most importantly, drive and determination to do great science!

The University of Surrey Ion Beam Centre is a multidisciplinary National Research Facility comprising chemists, engineers and physicists. We use mass spectrometry and ion beams to measure samples arriving from a diverse array of users (geology, electronics, physics, biology, forensics, medicine). We support >40 groups in academia and industry in the UK and in Europe. We are working with a range of industrial and academic collaborators to drive new advances in analytical measurement, funded by various research councils, including the EU, EPSRC and BBSRC. Meanwhile, the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Surrey has recently invested heavily in instrumentation and staff for mass spectrometry "omics" and we will be working closely with these new staff members, giving exciting possibilities for cross faculty and interdisciplinary research. This is a fixed term contract for up to 2 years.
