This is an advert for the Eileen Cowan PhD studentship at the University of Leicester. The project seeks to leverage mass spectrometry to uncover the reasons of multiple drug intolerances in hypertension.

The candidate will work through a leading translational mass spectrometry centre, the van Geest MultiOmics Facility, under the supervision of Dr Pankaj Gupta and Dr Dan Lane.

Title: Understanding multiple drug intolerance in hypertension: Why do patients not tolerate medications and what are we missing?

Project Highlights: - Multiple drug intolerances (MDI) in hypertension are common, remain a puzzle, and have a significant adverse impact on patient health - This is a pioneering project that will use mass spectrometry and analytical chemistry to try and understand the reason for MDI - New tests will be developed that will be of direct patient benefit, helping to individualise and inform treatment in the number one risk factor for death globally Studentships are available to highly motivated and qualified applicants and provide a support package including a full UK fee waiver, annual stipend, research costs, and research training support grant. Studentships are offered for a October 2024 start. The award of the studentship will be based on the research potential of the applicant, with applicants from under-represented backgrounds being given priority.
