We are looking for passionate and dedicated scientists, with demonstrated experience in chromatography and mass spectrometry, to join our multidisciplinary teams to provide qualitative analytical science solutions for colleagues both on site and elsewhere within Syngenta’s global organisation.

About this opportunity:

As part of the Structural Chemistry team, you will be working within a business-critical part of the company, providing diverse analytical support and solutions for customers across the Research and Development pipeline. This opportunity requires significant expertise in chromatography and mass spectrometry to address challenges and develop application-specific platforms in the most efficient manner using the state-of-the-art equipment available.

Role purpose:

  • To provide chromatography and mass spectrometry expertise in support of small molecule structural characterisation, working in close collaboration with team members as well as alongside other analytical experts, in support projects across the R&D pipeline
  • To facilitate the structural elucidication of unknowns in R&D samples using state of the art hyphenated LC-MS, GC-MS and HRMS instrumentation that generates MS fragmentation data.
  • To maintain the routine and high-throughput instruments whilst leading their technical advancements and applicability.
  • To employ a range of ionisation technique(s) that provide both supplementary and orthogonal data across the team and other functions as appropriate (e.g. ambient ionisation methods)

Required:

  • PhD or MSc degree in Analytical Chemistry or a related field
  • Application of liquid and gas chromatography and method development
  • Small molecule mass spectrometry techniques and data interpretation 
  • Troubleshooting mass analysers from vendors such as Waters, Agilent or Thermo
  • Use of relevant software, such as Masslynx and XCalibur for data acquisition and processing
