About this job:

Part of our Bioscience analytics team you will support the technical Lead, covering LCMS method development, helping users to analyse samples and maintaining the LCMS facility to ensure measurement excellence for projects. Job satisfaction will come from daily equipment use and proactive interaction with a scientifically broad user group. Accountabilities:

You will be responsible for primary analytical method development on departmental LCMS equipment; involving good communication with LCMS users, the reporting and database management of methods/ SOPs, and maintenance or improvement of methods.
Understand the customer (LCMS users and project teams) needs and align to the analytical method development approach, ensuring the most efficient and effective use of instrumentation.
Maintain, calibrate and quality test all LCMS instruments. Effectively communicate breaks in service or anticipated events to users.
Be available and approachable to a wide-ranging customer base, to help troubleshoot technical challenges with LCMS data acquisition, or assist with diagnosis of instrument or infrastructure issues, providing solutions or taking responsibility to escalate issues to ensure they are resolved.
Assist users with the running of samples to ensure efficient use of the Bioscience Analysis Facility and carry out activities and assays for ADME capability development projects when required.
Proactively identify opportunities to help improve operational flexibility, efficiency or overall effectiveness.


Knowledge and experience

Previous experience of LCMS hardware and software, rapidly learn our systems to expert level; once established you will continue to progress technical knowledge, using this to enhance ways-of-working and upskill those around you.
Able to manage multiple technical inputs, analysing, evaluating and proposing solutions to users. Identifies the differing needs of people and adjusts approach to influence and assist them.
Demonstrates self-sufficiency and sound judgement of when to involve others.
MSc or PhD in Chemistry, Analytical chemistry or related fields.
Critical knowledge: Mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography, analytical method development.
Advantageous knowledge: Metabolite identification, Untargeted metabolomics Metabolism chemistry, Physical chemistry, Bioassays, Biochemistry, Synthetic Biology.
