In addition, the team undertakes contract research and development projects and delivers specialist measurement services for a range of customers in both the public and private sectors. The team utilises a range of analytical technologies, based predominantly on mass spectrometry, including single-quad, QQQ, QTOF, Orbitrap and IMS-MS.

As an Researcher you will gain experience in a range of analytical technologies and develop the knowledge and skills needed to utilise our procedures and instruments to perform analysis of organic compounds including proteins to support the research projects and measurement services delivered by the Organic Analysis team.

Key accountabilities:

  • Development and validation of GC-MS, LC-MS and LC-MS/MS methodology for the identification and quantification of (bio)organic species in a diverse range of application areas (including environmental, clinical, pharmaceutical and security)
  • Evaluation & optimisation of operating parameters of a range of mass spectrometry platforms in order to improve instrument performance
  • Provide support across the team for instrumental trouble-shooting, maintenance and optimisation
  • Dissemination of results to originators and users of the techniques Candidate specification: Ideally, the successful candidate will have a PhD/post doc experience in the field of mass spectrometry or equivalent industrial experience.
