BRITISH MASS SPECTROMETRY SOCIETY
combinatorial chemistry special interest group

Combinatorial and automated synthetic methods have radically altered the lead generation process in the agrochemical and pharmaceutical industry. These paradigms bring with them the need for specialised, high throughput analytical methodologies.

Mass spectrometry plays a leading role in structural confirmation of synthetic materials and in the elucidation of potentially active components from screening processes. The special interest group on combinatorial chemistry is concerned with high throughput MS methods, software for data reduction from high throughput formats, the use of MS in the purification process the identification of 'hits' from high volume screening processes.

Other topics will be covered as this fast moving area develops. The aims of the SIG are to provide a forum where expertise in MS analysis of arrays and combinatorial libraries can be shared and discussed.  We also aim to act as an advisory group to relevant vendors, to ensure that commercial developments are driven by relevant analytical requirements.
