The Society celebrated its 25th Anniversary at its Annual Meeting at UCL, where the first meeting had been held in 1965.
To try to keep the small feel of the ever growing Society it introduced the idea of Special Interest Groups in the 1990s so people could still hold small meetings focussed on specific applications or technical developments. The most successful of these new groups was the LC-MS SIG.
In response to the explosion in application of LC-MS applications following the introduction of electrospray ionisation, 1993 saw the first BMSS LC-MS course and meeting at Robinson College organised by Janet Oxford and Christine Eckers of the LC-MS SIG. Thanks to their hard work this event proved such a successful biennial meeting that it ran until 2009. Later organisers included Soraya Monte, Pat Wright, Steve Pleasance and Mark Harrison.
All these extra activities increased the workload and responsibilities of the volunteer BMSS Committee. This eventually led to the introduction of Anna as our Administrator in time for the Annual Meeting at the University of Reading in 1999.
